Volunteers

All hands on Deck ... YOU Are Needed ...YOU can make a difference ...

The Congress Team desperately need extra hands before, during and after congress.
We have made the distinction in voluntary status – between staff volunteers and volunteers.

Exchange Volunteers need to commit to being part of our team, whom we can absolutely count on.
We are committed to ensuring everyone is free to attend the daily latihan, and to keeping the work time at around 4 hours daily. We need about 150 staff volunteers.

Casual Volunteers are short-term team players, for perhaps one day or a few hours, a delightful surprise, who could provide a bit of respite for one of the staff.

All can be involved ... let us raise a spirit of “How much can I do”?

We hope you will become part of our Congress Team:

Areas where you can help;
Registration; Security; Information Desk; Cafes; Translators; Airport – meet & greet; Site management & Deputies; Office; Technical; Programming; General Runners; Congress TV; Childcare & Young people; etc.

We thank you if you are willing to get involved.

Performance

The COT has secured for the entire length of the congress five venues of variable size and quality which should allow performers with a wide of interest to find their moment upon the stage.

The Town Hall auditorium (seating 2,600) is a quality venue with acoustics ranked in the world’s top ten.  Next door, the James Hay Theatre (seating 2,600) is an attractive site used by the Canterbury Opera, who find it ideal for dramatic presentations.  The Salvation Army auditorium has good acoustics as well, and is normally used as a practice venue by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.  The two other smaller sites, the Caledonian Hall and Cathedral Grammer School have stages and space for practice and performance.

There is also a beautiful exterior site adjacent to the Town Hall suitable for outside performance.

It is hoped that members will take full advantage of the possibilities afforded by the venues and the team will do its best to assist you to find your way happily to the stage.

It may be noted that included in the schedule of events/performance, there will be an opening and closing ceremony, a classical concert, a concert of lighter entertainment (pop, comedy etc), a fashion show, a film evening showcase and a music cafe.  The program will certainly alter, grow and change as the complete picture emerges.

The Visual Arts

The Gallery O at the Christchurch Art Centre has been booked for the full Congress period.  It has a large spacious single exhibiting room, nicely refurbished in a neo-gothic style with good lighting.  This venue has good daytime foot traffic and can be available in the evenings for functions.

Additional exhibiting options are being pursued.

Fashion Show

Following on from successfully organising the hugely enjoyed fashion show at the Innsbruck Congress, Fardiyah Dickie, would like to do another Fashion Show in Christchurch 2010.  The project hopes to include a wide range of artists, musicians, designers, marketing people, film makers, all helping to create an entertaining programme, a business platform and an opportunity for many to showcase their skills.

The Performance, Visual Arts, and Fashion Show programmes, as with other events, are still in the initial planning stages, and more will be forthcoming as information comes to hand.
