Healing  the  Environment, Planting  Trees

Some time ago, aware that there was a concern from some of the members about the environmental impacts of long haul flights to World Congress, Renata Peek approached the City council about the possibility of planting trees in a reserve.

In talking to the head ranger at a large local park called the Groynes, he showed an extensive planting program to improve and beautify the park.  The project involves cutting away the weed grown willow and brambles that are choking the riverbanks, and replanting natives in an effort to bring back the area to the pre European Kahikatea and Totara forest along with the native bird and insect life.

A desk will be set up at congress with information about the program, and members will be able to make a donation to the City for the purpose of buying the long lived trees to be planted in perpetuity at the Groynes.

At planting time in April, a party of the local Subud members will go and assist with the planting and in about 200 years or so our descendants will be able to come and view the mature trees standing with many others in the surrounds of the beautiful park.
