The World Famous Milford Track
Take the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful tramps in New Zealand
Dates : 19th to 26th of January 2010
Tramping
In New Zealand, we don’t walk, but we “tramp”. Since I have been in New Zealand, I have enjoyed many tramping trips. Standing on the top of our mountains often brings tears to my eyes and I think of how I would love others to enjoy the scenery that New Zealand has been gifted with.
The Milford Track
Often described as the “Finest Walk in the World”, a 55km moderate tramp, with up to 7 hours walking on some of the days. The track starts at the head of Lake Te Anau, follows the Clinton Valley over Mackinnon Pass (1,100m) and then down the Arthur River to Milford Sound. The landscape is absolutely stunning.
Tramping the track takes 3-4 days and the whole trip will take 8 days including transport from Christchurch. The trip would commence directly after the world congress on the 19th of January 2010. After completing the Milford track, you will finish with a boat trip to enjoy the majestic Milford Sound itself.
"Independent Walking" is a low cost "no frills" way of tramping, (compared to the much more expensive commercial guided trips). Independent walkers carry all their own equipment, clothing, sleeping bag, food (supplied), etc and share the domestic chores. The trip is suitable for people of a wide age group, provided you are healthy and can carry a pack of about 12-13kg for 3 or 4 days over some rocky surfaces with a few stiff climbs and descents. Generally we do not recommend that children under 13 years of age participate, though this can depend on the individual.
One needs to have access to suitable tramping equipment, we will supply a list in advance and you can either bring it yourself or hire the equipment in Christchurch.
The price for the trip is NZ$1,025
PLACES ARE LIMITED AND WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE ON A “FIRST COME FIRST SERVED” BASIS. AS THERE IS A HUGE DEMAND FOR THE MILFORD TRACK AND WE MUST BOOK THE TRACK IN JULY WE ASK YOU TO MAKE A COMMITMENT BY THE END OF JUNE.
